STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE JEDI (1983) Recalled Advance With Date

A genuine original issued rolled U.S. Advance one-sheet 27x41 (exact measurements 27 1/8” x 41 1/16”) with “Coming May 25, 1983 to your galaxy.” known as ‘date version;' STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE JEDI (1983) vintage unrestored movie poster.

There are two original versions of the Revenge of the Jedi Advance one-sheet printed in 1982. The first version with ‘No Date’ was printed only once, issued by the studio, and meant for theatrical display (issued exclusively to movie theatres). The first printing was issued prior to a release date announced by 20th Century Fox. Once a release date was announced, a second version of the poster with the date printed near the bottom of the poster: “Coming May 25, 1983 to your galaxy.” was issued. In December 1982, Lucas decided that Revenge was not appropriate and returned to his original title, Return of the Jedi. (It was suggested from writer Lawrence Kasdan that the original title was ‘weak’ so Lucas decided to use Revenge.) By the time of the title change, there were thousands of Revenge teaser posters that had been printed and distributed. (Note that the poster reverses the correct color of the light sabers; Luke is seen wielding a red lightsaber while Vader wields a blue one.) The poster was recalled and pulled from the films advertising campaign. The remaining stock of 6,800 posters were sold to collectors through the Star Wars Fan Club. The 2005 prequel trilogy film Revenge of the Sith later alluded to the dismissed title of Revenge of the Jedi.

The Revenge of the Jedi Advance one-sheet along with the Star Wars Style ‘A’ one-sheet are the most commemorated and counterfeited movie posters in history. Bootleg of these posters exist and can be differentiated. One of the first bootleg versions were copied from a folded poster, so the fold line are evident. Other bootlegs are undersized. Another version has a lighter area on the black background found in the far bottom right corner of the poster. All bootlegs are on a different paper stock and colors and sharpness are dull compared to an original print. This print is a genuine original unused theatre issued one-sheet.

This poster features original artwork created for the films first-run to the theatre from its U.S. release on May 25, 1983. This is guaranteed to be an original movie poster issued by the studio and meant for theatrical display. The poster art is designed by the popular American artist Drew Struzan. Struzan is known for his more than 150 posters, which include all the films of the Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Rambo, and Star Wars film series.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, later released as Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, is a 1983 American epic space opera film. It is the third film to be released in the Star Wars series and the sixth in terms of internal chronology of the storyline. The film is set approximately one year after where The Empire Strikes Back storyline ends. The film received mostly positive reviews when it was released and was one of the years highest-grossing films of 1983.

The poster measures 27x41 inches (exact measurements 27 1/8” x 41 1/16”) and printed single-sided issued rolled. The poster was issued rolled and folded. This vintage unrestored poster has minor side border wear/wrinkles only near bottom right side of poster and is in near mint - Never Used condition.
