STAR WARS (1977) Style ‘A’ U.S. One Sheet Original Poster

A genuine original issued folded Style 'A' U.S. one-sheet regular 27x41 with ‘STAR WARS’ written under NSS coding in funky typeset. 1977 poster numbered 77/21; STAR WARS (1977) vintage unrestored movie poster.

There were at least four different original printings of Style ‘A’ one-sheet regular. As this poster contains the lettering ‘STAR WARS’ written under the NSS coding in funky typeset including ONE SHEET – STYLE “A” spelled-out across the bottom border on the poster, movie poster historians have labeled this printing as ‘version 2.’ However, it is believed by some that this may be the first printing, although it cannot be proven. This version has No known bootlegs. In addition, the poster is autographed by Carrie Fisher, who portrays the character 'Princess Leia' in the Star Wars film.

This poster features original artwork created for the films first-run to the theatre from its U.S. release on May 25, 1977. This is guaranteed to be an original movie poster issued by the studio and meant for theatrical display. The poster art is designed by Thomas Jung, an American advertising art director, graphic designer and illustrator. One of Jung's early assignments was on the one-sheet theatrical poster for the 1959 movie Plan 9 from Outer Space, dubbed by many as the 'worst movie ever made.' Since Jung would go on, to design and illustrate the one-sheet "style A" theatrical poster for one of the most widely acclaimed films ever made, Star Wars, he carries the unusual distinction of having worked on perhaps the worst and best movies made during the last fifty years. Some of Jung's other illustration work includes movie poster art designs for: Doctor Zhivago, The Omen, The Lord of the Rings (1978 Style 'B' Version), and Raging Bull.

Star Wars, later retitled Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, is a 1977 American epic space opera film written and directed by George Lucas. It is the first installment in the Star Wars series. Lucas began writing the script after completing his previous film American Graffiti and based the plot outline on Akira Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress. Filming began on March 22, 1976, and shot in various locations in Tunisia, England and Guatemala. Lucas has often stated that the entire original trilogy was, in essence, intended as one film. However, he said that his story material for Star Wars was too long for one film, so he opted to split the story into multiple films. The film garnered ten Academy Award nominations, winning six; the nominations included Best Supporting Actor for Alec Guinness and Best Picture. The film is often ranked as one of the best films of all time. Star Wars has since been preserved into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in its first year of opening (being the most recent one to do so at the time).

The poster measures 27x41 inches and printed single-sided issued folded. The autograph was granted during a Media Convention event sponsored by Creation Entertainment; Documentation provided.

Generally, posters at this time were issued folded, although rolled ones do exist but are quite rare. All original theatre release issued Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back one-sheets posters will measure 27x41. This vintage unrestored poster is in near mint - Never Used condition.
